Heart Butte
Heart Butte is an unusually rocky butte near the Heart River about a dozen miles
south of Glen Ullin.
It is a prominent feature of the landscape, and served as the focus point of
picnics (and sometimes dates, Ruth tells me). In this picture you can see
several people on horseback or on foot on the slopes of the butte.
Shortly after World War II,
Heart Butte Dam was built nearby on the Heart River, forming the Heart Butte Lake,
now called Lake Tschida after a fair-to-middlin' politician.
