The family emigrated to the U.S. in the summer of 1864, along with Valentin's father and stepmother.  Eva Margaretha's parents had already emigrated to the U.S.  They settled in [[102_CaledoniaWales|Caledonia]], Wisconsin.

See their emigration document written by the church in Meiningen, Saxony at the time the family left Germany. It was passed down into the Carl Ungerecht family. A copy was converted into modern German and then into English.
